Hotel Welcome
The medieval sea shore village of Villefranche cascades from the steep hills of the Cote d'Azur into the cobalt seas of the Mediterranean - a heavenly place to spend a few days. And, right beside the old harbour stands Hotel Welcome, where you will find wonderful hospitality and comfort, as well as quirky, individual style and decor. The village with its tiny streets and alley ways climbs steeply behind the hotel: there are boutiques and shops of every description as well as a rich variety of restaurants here and along the water's edge. There is a small public beach about 200 metres from the door.

Once a 17th century convent but a hotel for over 200 years, the Hotel Welocme has been patronised over the years by the famous.

Accommodations: All rooms have views across the bay to Cap Ferrat, ensuite bath/toilet and facilities include air conditioning, central heating, phone, colour TV with satellite channels.

Villefranche
Established in the late 13th century, Villefranche-sur-Mer came under the rule of Venice, Lombardy and Savoy in medieval times and has a rich heritage and unique charm to show for it: the old town with its picturesque narrow streets, the mysterious "Rue Obscure" (a covered street beneath the houses in the style of the ancient Etruscans), the colourful facades of the houses decorated in the 'trompe l'oeil' style, the 15th century Jesuit style St. Michaels Church, the more recent Chapel Saint-Pierre, decorated by Jean Cocteau, the famous artist and film director (and guest of Hotel Welocme) and dedicated to the fishermen of Villefranche, the fortified Port, and, last but not least, the magnificent Citadel, built in 1557 by the Duke of Savoy, housing the town hall, an open air theatre surrounded by gardens, and three museums.

To transfer from Nice Airport, take the shuttle bus to Nice Central Station (about $4/2.50 Sterling: 25 minutes and then the coastline train heading east for 5 minutes (about$2.50/1.50 Sterling). The hotel is a short walk from Villefranche station. Car parking is about $17.50/11 pounds per day) - please book with us in advance.

From the village rail station you can visit Cannes and Antibes to the west and Monte Carlo and Menton to the east.

Essential visits include the Rothschild villa on Cap Ferrat, the old flower market in Nice and Antibes old town and its Picasso museum.

Closed mid November to 22nd December.
