Langogne - Southern Massif Centrale
MC11

This country house, in the wilds of the Massif Centrale just south of Langogne in the departement of Lozère, is an elegant residence situated high on a rocky outcrop with spectacular, panoramic views over a wooded valley and the Langouyrou river below.

Lozère is a department where nature conservation is paramount. It is an area of moderate sized mountains that are criss-crossed by crystal-clear rivers and endless walking tracks. It offers a real escape for those seeking a return to unspoilt nature, open spaces, fantastic vistas and dramatic gorges. It is walking and fishing country par excellence.

South facing with three floors, this lovely house is filled with sun and light from dawn to dusk and two glass-enclosed verandas provide exceptional vistas of the surrounding countryside. The 5 bedrooms provide the highest standard of comfort and mealtimes on the veranda, the dining room or on the terraces are relaxed and delicious.
Accommodations: The house can accommodate up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms - 3 at ground level and 2 at first floor level. Each room has its own private bathroom. Views from almost every bedroom look over the valley of the Langouyrou river.

The surrounding countryside remains wild and unspoilt and is punctuated by delightful river gorges and rivulets, providing a landscape that is perfect for walking, painting, fishing and pure escapism! Your host has a number of prepared, illustrated walking routes for guests to follow, some from the front doorstep and others further afield.

The property's own shady stretch of the river leads to a waterfall and provides a series of beachy, pebbled areas perfect for riverside painting, private trout fishing or just relaxing, (bring your wellies!)

The nearby town of Langogne is on the borders of three departements - Lozère, Ardèche and Haute Loire, each with its own distinct character. Les Roches is the perfect base from which to explore this varied countryside.

The spectacular Gorges du Tarn and  de la Jonte (the only European Vultures in France) are within easy  driven distance as is the Wolf Sanctuary near Mende.

You can expect a consistently high standard of food at Les Roches: your hostess, Christine, an accomplished cook serves both French and international dishes (she once won an award for the "Best Breakfast in Britain", although here in France, the heavyweight English breakfast has been replaced by a lighter, continental style. Lunch and dinner menus are varied and imaginative and feature recipes gathered during her time in Greece and in the United States. Pinic lunches available on request.

Evening meals are served either in the elegant dining room, the lower veranda or outside on the Langogne Terrace.

Vegetarian and other special diets can be accommodated so long as advance notice is given.
