Manoir de Bénédicte

Near Orleans - Eastern Loire
LO 02

Domaine de la Thiau

A modest distance to the south east of Orleans and to the north of Sancerre at the eastern end of the Valley of the Kings, you will encounter this manor house: the guest house is a wonderful old 'Mansard' style manor house adjacent to the owner's own home. The setting between Gien and Briare is in a large private park and hunting reserve, bordered on one side by the River Loire. There is a children's play area. You can fish in the river or, in summer, swim, and walk or cycle along the riverside path.
Chateau de Gien
There are several magnificent historic monuments which can be visited nearby: the Groslot and Cabu 'Hotels' and Museum at Orleans, the Chateau of Chateauneuf and Loire Navigation Museum, the 15th century Chateau de Gien, the Presbytery of Germigny-des-Pres with its Carolingian Oratory, the Chateau de la Bussiere surrounded by a lake, the ornate Briare Canal Bridge, the Clery-St-Andre Basilica where Louis VI is buried, and Chateau de Sully.

The interior of the house is tastefully decorated and furnished with nice old pieces. Breakfast which is included in our tariff is served in the salon or on the flower decked terrace when weather permits. At other times the salon is at your disposal with easy seating, hi-fi, games, fridge and microwave, also a pay phone. You may also play billiards in the owner's salon if you like and they have a selecton of bikes that you can borrow. In spite of its very grand appearance, you will find that your young, English speaking hosts are relaxed, informal and very friendly.

There are 3 bedrooms and a family suite, all with their own individual decor and character:

The Green Room: This room is furnished with antiques of the Loire region and has a double and a single bed. It has a private bathroom, toilet and TV.

The Blue Room: This room is furnished with pieces from the turn of the century and, again, has a double and a single bed. It has a private bathroom, toilet and TV.

The Pink Room: This room is furnished with Louis-Philippe antiques and, again, has a double and a single bed. It has a private shower room, toilet and TV.

The family suite consists of two bedrooms, a double and a room with twin single beds with bathroom en-suite.

A baby bed is available for a small additional cost.
A full dinner is not served in house but your host are happy to provide a three course meal with beer or wine included at 13 euros per head in the dining room: there are also a host of good restaurants within a short distance including some that still serve a set menu for as little as 10 euros.
Open all year. Children and animals welcome!
Sorry but no smoking is permitted in the house or bedrooms.

"Hostess very friendly and spoke
excellent English.  The rooms well presented and clean. Breakfast
excellent.  Outside surrounds expansive and very comfortable. A little
road noise, but not excessive as house is sited well back from the main road.  Good area for wine and sight seeing." Jon Minns, July 2002
