Chateau des Pardoux

Beaumont between Bergerac and Sarlat - Dordogne
DO 19

Favoured by a member of the British Royal Family and situated in the heart of the Perigord between Bergerac and Sarlat, this extraordinary 14th century chateau rests in complete tranquility in the forest and rolling countryside, close to the famous fortified bastide villages of Beaumont and Montpazier. Complete with its own chapel, Italian terrace, fortifications and old stone walls, the atmosphere is one of medieval splendour.

The charming owners, he speaks English, she not much, will regail you with the history of their lovely home, their past history (he was an army officer in the Indo-China war) and places of interest, near and far.

An ideal base for discovering the many treasures of the region: visit the medieval walled towns, impressive chateaux and riverside villages. You can also tour the many vineyards of Bordeaux, the closest being the St Emilion, Entre Deux Mers and Sauternes appellations as well as the considerable virtues of Bergerac itself.

Accommodations: There are 5 double bedrooms, each with private bath or shower and toilet: the decor is sumptuous, the comfort luxurious but very much in harmony with the great age of the house and its dependance.

Set in ten thousand hectares of gardens and forest, you can stroll through the peaceful woodlands.

The Dordogne region is famed for its gastronomy - foie gras, confit de canard, truffles, walnuts, cepes - this is the lap of plenty.

A good continental breakfast is included in the basic tariff and you must make sure that you take dinner with your hosts on at least one occasion whilst you are there: Veronique is a cordon bleu cook and the meal has 7 courses - the price is high at 70 euros but it includes champagne, other table wines and coffee: please ensure that you give at least 24 hours advance notice.
