Chateau au Bourg (otherwise known as Papounan!)

St Estephe - Medoc, Bordeaux
AQ 03

Chateau Papounan
Papounan (previously known as Au Bourg) is a small chateau in the famous Haut medoc village of St Estephe with some of the world's most famous vineyards in the immediate surrounding area. Indeed, the property is not only in the golden heart of Medoc but is also near the sandy, unspoilt beaches of the Atlantic coast. Here, in Peace and tranquility, you are free to wander in the chateau's own vineyard and beautiful walled garden.
Accommodations: One of the double suites with private bathroom is located in the main chateau but has its own private entrance and parking area. It boasts a spacious, comfortable bedroom/salon with satellite TV, telephone and tea-making facilities.

There is also a recently restored dependence (cottage) in the garden with two further double suites, one with bathroom, TV and phone, the other with a private shower room.

Continental breakfast is included in the standard tariff but dinner is not available "à Chateau": however, there are very good restaurants in the immediate vicinity, some within walking distance of the Chateau.

There is private parking adjacent to this little house. You can hire bicycles from your hosts and play table-tennis. Nearby there are tennis courts and a golf course and there is the opportunity to fish in the Gironde or surf or sail at the coast.

"We had a very nice stay at Chateau Papounan. Our hostess gave us a choice between the room we had reserved, and one of the apartments just 50 ft. away. We chose the apartment because it had a FULL kitchen, well equipped, so we were able to cook a few nights. This is good in this area, because the restaurant choices are nice but limited within 20 minutes drive.

The place was very comfortable (we could barely get out of bed) and well furnished. I was happy to find large, thick towels (hard to even buy in France, much less get in an overnight stay). I would highly recommend this place to your other clients." Lisa Peppin August 2002

"Had a wonderful time, found the hosts to be above and beyond the usual, the beds the best in France, and the bath in master suite was so beautiful I wanted to spend the morning there!", Sharyl Parker June 2004.
